Finding Your Perfect Suburb
The Gold Coast stretches over 57 kilometres from Beenleigh in the north to Coolangatta in the south. Each area has a distinct character. Here's your guide to the key suburbs.
Northern Gold Coast
- Southport: The CBD hub with Griffith University, Gold Coast University Hospital, and light rail. High-rise apartments, busy commercial centre, and Southport Broadwater parklands.
- Labrador / Biggera Waters: More affordable waterfront living. Harbour Town shopping precinct and family-oriented parks.
- Helensvale / Oxenford: Popular family suburbs with excellent schools (Helensvale State High, A.B. Paterson College), Westfield shopping, and easy M1 access. Close to Dreamworld and Wet'n'Wild.
- Hope Island: Gated golf-course communities, canal estates, and Sanctuary Cove marina. Upscale living on the water.
- Runaway Bay: Waterfront properties, Runaway Bay Marina, and central shopping. Popular with retirees and families.
- Paradise Point: Exclusive riverside suburb with boutiques, cafes, and beautiful Broadwater views.
Central Gold Coast
- Surfers Paradise: Iconic skyline, nightlife, high-rise apartments, and tourists. The heart of Gold Coast tourism with endless dining and entertainment.
- Broadbeach: The newer dining and entertainment hub with Pacific Fair shopping centre, The Star Casino, and excellent restaurants. More refined than Surfers.
- Main Beach: Exclusive, quieter beachside suburb with Tedder Avenue dining, Marina Mirage, and luxury apartments. Less touristy than Surfers.
- Mermaid Beach / Mermaid Waters: Trendy mid-ring suburbs. Great cafes on Hedges Avenue and canal-front homes. In high demand.
- Robina: Major secondary centre with Robina Town Centre (huge shopping), Robina Hospital, Bond University, and well-planned housing estates. Family favourite.
- Burleigh Heads: The cool heart of the coast. World-class National Park headland, Burleigh Beach, James Street dining village, and a thriving creative scene.
- Miami / Nobby Beach: Up-and-coming dining strips with craft breweries, boutique shops, and a relaxed local vibe. Still relatively affordable compared to Burleigh.
Southern Gold Coast
- Tugun / Currumbin: Strong community feel, local shops, Currumbin Beach, and Currumbin Valley hinterland access. The Wild-Life Sanctuary is a major attraction.
- Palm Beach: Growing southern hub with busy café scene, improved dining, and a youthful energy. Good-value options compared to central suburbs.
- Burleigh Waters / Varsity Lakes: Planned lake and canal estates, good schools, and Bond University proximity. Family-oriented and commuter-friendly.
- Coolangatta / Kirra: The southern gateway, straddling the NSW border. Legendary surf breaks (Kirra, Snapper Rocks), a laid-back beach town atmosphere, and the Gold Coast Airport.
- Tallebudgera / Elanora: Quiet residential suburbs bordering the beautiful Tallebudgera Creek. Good value with easy access to Burleigh and the beach.
Hinterland Suburbs
- Mudgeeraba / Tallai: Acreage properties, bushland, and a village feel. Close to Robina and M1 but a world away in atmosphere.
- Nerang: The valley town with mountain views. Affordable housing, strong community, and access to hiking and cycling trails.
